Congressman Luis Gutierrez arrested at White House Rally July 26, 2011 (Washington, DC) A rally for immigration reform took place in front of the White House in Washington on July 23, 2011. More than 2,000 people protested the lack of immigration reform in the United States. According to CASA de Maryland, which co-sponsored the protest, more than one million deportations have occurred since President Obama took office. Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill) and 10 other people were arrested. Gutierrez says that "Republicans are blocking immigration reform, but it doesn't get [Obama] off the hook".
