May 24, 2011 (Washington, DC) Congressman John Lewis (D-GA) talked to a group of Texas students from the KIPP 3D Academy.  He showed the students large photographs of his activity in the civil rights struggle, and talked about knowing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  "Dr. King was a loving and compassionate man" he told the students.  Lewis also talked about appearing on Oprah with the original "Freedom Riders", and said that "things have changed from the times when white only signs were in the bus stationas".
