DC Vote Rally June 25, 2011 (Washington, DC) Nathan Bennett-Fleming, 26, from Anacostia was one twelve people arrested outside of the White House protesting what they consider unfair treatment of District of Columbia residents. The House Appropriations Committee passed a bill that would prohibit DC from using local tax dollars to provide reproductive healthcare for low-income women. Many residents feel that Congress too often interferes in local government affairs. The arrests come just over two months after Mayor Vincent Gray and several city council members were arrested in front of the Dirksen Senate Office Building on April 11, 2011, during a protest opposing congressional oversight of the city's budget.
